I am sitting here after a long hard day in the sun. The group of people I was surrounded with people who were teachers, technology people, average people, students, and those who volunteer to make the world go around.
Particularly, I was volunteering with a few people who told stories of their life, and what they do in their spare time. There is one who is taking a break from her studies and one who is planning on retiring within the next year. But there was this one man that sparked interest in me. He pose is not tall, but not short either, brains of knowledge, and physical built of healthiness as his muscle outlined. Behind his sun glass hide eyes of caring compassionate and person who continually gives until there is no more and then at the end of the day praises and thank you’s cross his thin soft red tinted lips.
In the midst of story telling, he presented the idea of donating components of blood to those in need. It is not like donate blood, it is more. It is life saving tools to children with cancer, friends who are fighting cancer, and strangers of feeling hopelessness lying in hospitals beds cheered up with a bag full of blood. It is like the life jacket to a person who is drowning fast at a spiral down ward fall.
Though donation of blood or components is equally important what I was more impressed with the idea that there are 6 people who gave up their Sunday to help those who live locally and those who were visiting from all over in a track and field met. We saw pulled muscle, met new people, and at the end of the day, many came by to say “thank you.” It seems those two words are often forgotten when said it is great appreciated.
